15 grand, eh?

Seems like that's the target for TSG's upcoming Final Fantasy Marathon. And I gotta say... that's not exactly aiming for the stars, now is it? Aside from the floptastic Star Wars marathon, every week-long marathon thus far has broken the 50k mark, and even THAT raised 75% of that 15k goal. Heck, many three-day marathons came close to 15k. Is it just me, or is having such a low goal going to be a turn-off to certain people, who may be more inclined to donate if the goal is further away? It's what I've always felt, anyway.

On a related subject, expect an announcement from yours truly on the subject of the marathon later this week.

  1. There's probably a science to getting the most money out of donations. I'd imagine that for some people, a low target is an incentive to donate because they'll be contributing a larger percentage when they donate.

That's an interesting subject, though. I'd love to see some kind of study on it.

    1. Well it's happened before, where if we'd reach our goal early, donations would slow down afterwards. I don't know.

    2. I am not an expert on the human psyche either, so do not ask me...

  2. Keep in mind though, they always seem to have the slow donations coming through the night shifts (sometimes barely getting 100 dollars over 3 hours) so to me, it makes sense to have 15k be the goal.

    1. Yeah, but as I said before that never stopped them from breaking 50k in week-long marathons. It's just that the donations roll in so much faster during daytime and, well, having more time helps too.
