NO. DEAR GOD NO. So far it's been optional, but we all knew this wasn't going to last.
Just how many times have the channels been changed over the last three or so years, every time a significant downgrade over the previous one? Pick a layout and stick with it, dammit! Preferably a functional one. You know, like the one that was around before Google got its greedy mitts on the site.
Meh, since I knew this was bound to happen, I changed as soon as they suggested it to get an headstart and get used to it right away. It looks even more horrible than the previous one, it's still kinda hard to customize, but at least it's more functional for actual navigation on the channel... even if the buttons to do so might be a little bit too small.
ReplyDeleteHowever, since NOBODY with actual videos was willing to test it beforehand, I don't know how navigating playlists and stuff will work yet. But I think it might be because of the lack of background customization. You can still make a banner... but I think the lack of background is the biggest turn-off for the really popular channels. Personally, I don't really care, as I won't be making videos anytime soon. The only thing I'm worried is if the playlists will be easy to access.
its pretty bad the playlists are hidden similar to the channel comments section of the current one also the front page is just weird.
DeleteIt's weird because of the lack of background and I just checked and you can put all your playlists on the front-page of your channel though. Although like I said, accessing the customization options is kinda annoying in the first place. There's still room to make it much worse, though. I think they messed up.
DeleteI don't get it. It's a problem with a number of huge websites. Do they not listen to customers at all? NOBODY likes these changes.
ReplyDeleteOnly one question remains. How will they manage to make the channels WORSE next time? Oh, and I have nagigated a few in the new layout. It is annoying. Like you, Slow, I will take advantage of every single minute that I have the current channel background before being forced to switch. Hey, I do not get Google's blood money, so I can do that too...
ReplyDeleteIt is as if Google's executives are in their own world. Whenever a complaint goes up on their forums, they say, "LALALALALALALALA, NOT LISTENING!!!" or, "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" It is as of they draw random "features" from a hat, and the ones that will make the site even harder to navigate and find quality material are always green lit. You just KNOW that if the college students who originally made YouTube made it like this, we all would be like, "YouTube? What's that? OH, that site that is BLOODY ANNOYING to navigate, so we never used it! If only they made it better before selling it to Google. OH WAIT!" One of the more annoying changes was making it so that the Featured videos featured video game players with subscriber counts that make Chuggaaconroy's look like nothing (dwell on that for a second). Both groups are partners. The difference is that Chuggaaconroy is still a bloody fantastic LPer who, you have to admit, puts his heart into making entertaining and all-around appealing playthroughs, whereas PewDiePie and the like...MineCraft, Halo, and CoD are the ONLY games to them! Eventually, YouTube WILL have to face the reality, and IT! WILL! BE! GLORIOUS (pretend glorious is in italics)!...for us...
Crap! I just figured out how they could make their site worse! Disable the "Block User" function, and everyone who was blocked by someone immediately gets un-blocked by that move! You can bet Slow and I would be doing a "NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO! FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU-" for the ages...
Oh, and I suspect you will be making a video in two weeks to thank YouTube for making such a FANTASTIC new layout? That was sarcasm if you read the rest of the comment, for that video of yours will be doing the opposite...saying pretty much what I said in this comment, only overall better said and written...
and just wait until they force you to use Chrome, or hell change the layout AGAIN in 3 weeks, just beacuse nobody liked it, well...No shit, but that doesnt mean you have to freaking change it every 10 months :/, I just barely made a YT account in Dec, will be switching to like Viemo if shit like this you just said Ness Prower happesn, and since YT is own by a MegaTon Corp, they'll never listen to us
DeleteAnd this is a problem why? I honestly don't get why people make such a big deal out of whenever Youtube changes how channels look. The only problem that I have with the new layout is that there's too much white.
