New Pokémon type... for real?

Seems like it may be the case, and with a theme that's been speculated about for a while to boot. The reason why it suddenly looks like it might become a thing is because PokéExperto said so, even adding it to their type chart. If that name doesn't ring a bell... this is the same fansite that leaked copious amounts of classified information prior to BW1's release.

Paradoxically, this is the very reason why I'm taking this news with a grain of salt. After all, is Gamefreak stupid enough to let them anywhere near top secret info after they just threw every NDA they signed into a fire last time around? Any sensible company would answer any of their demands with a well-deserved "fuck you". Does Gamefreak belong to that category?

Then there's the obvious matter of introducing a new type so late into the series' lifespan meaning said type won't be really effective for the next decade due to underpopulation, mass retcons or not (edit: mass retcons might make it catch up or even surpass the least common types, actually). (And to add to that, most of these retcons would be applied to Pokémon that are currently mono-Normal. Hello lack of typing variety!)

So amazingly, the masses of drooling idiots who couldn't put a non-Fire move on their Charizard to save their lives could actually be bang on, if this turns out to be true. And considering who this is coming from... I wouldn't say it's anywhere close to confirmed due to their previous NDA breach antics, but it's worth keeping an eye on.

  1. When PokéExperto first announced they were going to be revealing the typings for Sylveon, Xerneas and Yveltal, I was interested because I was sick of people excitedly talking about Fairy-types, so a leak from a source which had established a reputation for leaking accurate information was news.

Had they said absolutely anything else, I would have been significantly more willing to take them on their word, simply because I refuse to accept that Zardtards would ever be right. As it is, I'm refusing to speculate at all until we get something more authoritative.

  2. It's definitely too early to tell, regardless of the fact that they got their hands on that Black/White data before they were supposed to. If there really is going to be a new type, taunting us with a new Eeveelution would be the obvious route. That alone doesn't at all imply there will be a new type however. They still might be doing it for the same reason they are withholding more information on the legendaries: to keep up the hype. I have wanted to see a Fairy-type since generation 2 (seriously), so I would be very excited if they wanted to employ a huge wave of retconning stuff like Blissey, Togekiss, Audino, and the like. Heck, maybe this will give them a way to keep the Pikachu train rolling if IT gets a new type. I am doubtful of the validity of the source, but speculation is always fun.

  3. I personally don't think there's going to be a Fairy type. After all, if GF did indeed plan on making a Fairy type, this is the last person we'd hear it from.

  4. Maybe it's true, but until an official source confirms it, it's just a rumour. But granted, it would fit as Sylveon's type perfectly.

  5. Until Serebii or Bulbapedia say that it is fact, I will not believe it. That is my approach to things in Pokemon...
