I'm just gonna call it Mewstery.

If they're not even coming out and saying it's a new Mewtwo form, then something fishy's going on. Oh well, you know the Genwunners will have a field day regardless - even with the prospect of a 90s schoolyard rumor possibly coming to life. (First Luigi in Mario 64, then thawing out Zora's Domain, then the General Leo glitch, now this. What next, Aeris comes back and says it was just a flesh wound?)

Edit: There's a huge catch now... it's being advertised as a new Pokémon IN ENGLISH. I think they enhanced the truth in that way in Japan before, but between their intent on keeping its identity under wraps, as well as this, it may be a new species entirely, despite looking like the textbook definition of an alternate form.

  1. I still feel horribly bitter about this reveal and can't get the feeling that we're about to be in for a massive letdown. Whether it's a new Mewtwo form, Mewthree or something else entirely, it's not what I was hoping for.

    1. At this point, you should ask yourself two questions.

      1. Would you feel bitter if the poster hadn't been leaked?

      2. Would you feel bitter if Mewtwo didn't have the time to build a 17-year legacy as a demigod, and one of the franchise's more recognizable faces?

    2. 1) With the similarity and the knowledge of Mewtwo being in the latest movie even before this announcement and the leak, probably.

      2) I probably wouldn't if Mewtwo was introduced in the 5th gen.

    3. Well there's the explanation. Even if you don't call yourself a Genwunner or a nostalgeek, nostalgia is still a powerful thing, entirely capable of clouding any objective judgement.

  2. But... they DID outright say it's a new Mewtwo form.

    1. No, they didn't. Serebii, NeoGAF and Bulbagarden even pointed this out.

    2. Huh. Could have sworn I heard "myuutsuu" in the Japanese babble.

    3. Well it's clearly related to Mewtwo, at least. Then you have to keep in mind, Mew and Mewtwo are related, despite being of different species. Same for Phione and Manaphy.

  3. Whatever it is, I LIKE it. #UnpopularOpinion?

    1. It always is an unpopular opinion whenever something new's revealed. The Pokémon fanbase seems utterly unable to formulate any kind of positive thought on new stuff.

    2. Better than the sheer schizophrenia of the Sonic fan base. At least the vocal Pokemon fans are slightly more consistent...

    3. I was about to say something about the Zelda cycle, but that's a consistent inconsistency, if that makes any sense.

    4. Other than the oxymoron, it kind of does, actually...

  4. Mewthree (Placeholder name) had red eyes.

    1. Cervantes, hm? That name is quite ironic in these parts...
Also, the Gen 3 fanboys would be getting REALLY desperate if they REALLY used that as "evidence"...

    2. Slow, despite the fact that you deleted that comment about this guy, it was still hilarious. Though I would recommend saving that sarcastic remark for someone who claims that they are 111SAMUSRIDLEY4EVA2006-chan. Seriously...Goose. You MAY want to prepare yourself if anyone notices the irony...in your name...

    3. If my search was correct, your name is spelled differently than the source of the irony, so it is slightly less likely, but still...

    4. That's because said source couldn't even spell the actual name of Don Quixote's author right.

  5. I don't know quite what to think at the moment. I mean, one thing's for sure - I love this thing. It looks awesome. But there are reasons why it could be an alternate forme, and why it couldn't.

  6. I also love it. I just hope they'll try to make it as different from Mewtwo as possible, so there's no way that one could overshadow the other. No matter if it's an alternate form or straight up a new Pokemon, I just want both of them to have their own niche.

  7. Hmm... I think I see a likely SSB4 character here! Calling it now.
