MD2 steamrolls the opposition + gen 5 poll

Well that was a boring blowout. I expected the likes of Ranger 2 and 3 to stand more of a chance, but I guess not. MD2 is the undisputed king of gen 4 spin-offs with 123 votes out of 166, leaving everything else in the dust. Battle Revolution managed to tie Ranger 2 for second with 13 votes apiece (really? Did no one play the Neon Colosseum?), while the original Rumble bagged eight, Ranger 3 seven, and Mystery Dungeon WiiWare and Poképark each ended up with one lonely vote each. Naturally, MD2 is the only one that advances to the final poll. I mean, how could I include games that fell way short of getting 10%?

Now it's time for gen 5, and I think we're in for another massacre...

  1. Conquest, obviously. It's not even a contest. Rumble 2 tried, as it improved over the original greatly from what I hear, but it's still not much more than a tedious beat-em-up. MD3 was highly anticipated, but seems to have fallen short of MD2. Conquest was a great SRPG, though, and made me want more Nobunaga games localized.

    1. We already have a few of them... The most recent one being the crossover Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper on the Wii U, which is a crossover between the universe of Nobunaga and co. and Dynasty Warriors. (I won't buy it for reasons I'll explain below)

But for a "Nobunaga" only game, recently, we only had Samurai Warriors 3 for the Wii. It's a hack-and-slash RPG. Personally, I thought the gameplay was really boring... but I kept playing solely for the story. I kinda regret wasting 50 bucks on it though... should have tried to find a pre-owned copy instead. The difficulty curve is ridiculous in this game. Probably even more than Black and White's post-game. The "Normal" difficulty is manageable, but still somewhat easy. But you can't unlock shit when playing Normal mode. You have to play the Hard Mode if you want to unlock everything this game has to offer and it's much, much harder than the previous setting. (There's also a useless Easy mode... just in case you want to see what it's like to fight an army of defenseless vegetables...)

  2. Being one of the few people that have played pokepark 2, I thought it was actually pretty good for what it is.(BTW it isn't a mario party ripoff if that's what you're thinking) But I'm going to vote the obvious Conquest because, well it's actually fun. (though I don't really like the rest of Tecmo Koei's series) Too bad MD3 isn't out here because I can't really judge it fairly.

    1. Despite that, MD3 is still tied for second. Either I have way more of a Japanese audience than I thought, or they think they're voting for Explorers of the Sky or something.

    2. I honestly don't understand why Explorers of Sky was considered PMD3 when it clearly the deluxe version of Time and Darkness. Though I will say: the soundtrack isn't bad in the real PMD3. Heck, I'm listening to Glacier Palace (Large Crystal Tower) right now, which is basically the equivalent of the sky tower and temporal tower.

  3. Conquest is going to blow the competition out of the water, and I obviously chose it, but I would note that Rumble 2 is a great thing to play in short periods of time, as the gameplay is actually quite fun in short spurts.

  4. I DO like Rumble Blast for the addicting gameplay. However, I will, like the others, cast my vote for Conquest. It is a fantastic game despite being THE most outlandish crossover ever. We in America were asking ourselves, "I would not have seen this coming! Will it be any good?" Then it came out in Japan, and that was replaced with, "This game sounds awesome! When are WE going to get it?!" We got it, we loved it, and you know the rest...

    1. If Conquest wins the final poll, I have to remember to copypaste this paragraph in the entry. And give proper credit, of course.

    2. Danke schön (yes, I speak a little German. Just a little), Slow! I merely spoke my opinion...

  5. I've never played Conquest and don't plan on buying it, but I really enjoyed Rumble 2, so I'm gonna vote for that.
