Winners and Losers results now up + new poll

Who were the best and worst of 2012? Check it out now!

Next question is fairly simple. When you type, which set of numbers do you use, the ones above the letters or the numeric keypad? For me, it's always been the former. I don't know why, either.

  1. I know why I do. I have grown so used to it, what with using a laptop most of my life...

  2. When I'm typing in a paragraph, I seem to use the numbers at the top of the keyboard just because they're easier to reach, but a big chunk of my time on the computer recently has been programming. For that reason, my number pad to the right generally sees more use. On a related note, two things have irked me about the standard layout since the beginning:

    1. Who's bright idea was it to have the digits on the top go 1 through 9 and then 0? Zero is obviously less than one. If some people don't realize that 0 is a perfectly good number on its own, that's their problem.

    2. I really would like to be able access those special characters (useful for cursing, and for parenthetical asides) without having to push Shift. What is even the point of the number pad on the side if you just have the digits readily show up elsewhere? I feel a little hypocritical bringing this up because I actually do use both sets of digits... Whatever.

  3. I had keyboards with no number pad for the longest time, and now that I have one, that whole quarter of the keyboard gets no use at all. Old habits die hard.

  4. The only time I use a number keypad is for emulators, you'd be surprised how well 6 and 2 can work as A and B buttons.

  5. To be honest, I've always used the number keys above the letter keys all my life, even when I use normal keyboards instead of my laptop, so whenever I use the full keyboard, the numbers on the end don't get used at all.

  6. My laptop doesn't even have a numeric keypad.
