Stadium 2 best old-school spin-off + gen 3 poll

That's the verdict that was reached in the most recent poll. 80 voters out of 185 chose it as the best spin-off from the first two generations, but behind is where the real show was, with an extremely close battle between TCG and Snap. At one point it looked like the former had it in the bag, but Snap came back with a late charge to take second place, 39 to 36. So these are the three games that will advance to the final round! Among the also-rans were Stadium 1 with 15 votes, Pinball 1 with 8 votes, Puzzle League with 6 votes and Puzzle Challenge with one solitary vote.

This week: generation 3 spin-offs! Vote away!

  1. Man, these polls make me realize I haven't even played half of the Pokemon spin-offs. The only relevant games here are Colosseum, XD, Mystery Dungeon and Ranger. Out of those, I've only played Colosseum and Ranger, and I'd have to give it to Ranger there. I genuinely enjoyed the first game, even though the sequels seemed to have improved just about everything. When I went back to play it again, though, I found the Steelix boss fight to be IMPOSSIBLE. What the hell, game.

  2. My choice is based on how much I've gone back to the games. And as much as Mystery Dungeon 1 made me cry, I never went back to it once I'd completed it. Probably because the same sad moment rarely makes me cry twice in a row.

Similar thing for Ranger 1. Once I beat it, I didn't really go back to it.

Channel, Pinball 2, Dash and Trozel I never played.

So it came down to Colosseum and XD. While I prefer the gameplay in XD, I prefer the story to Colosseum. So it was close between them. In the end though, Colosseum's darker story won it for me.

  3. For me it's either MD1 or Ranger 1, but because Ranger 1 is slightly clunky compared to Ranger 2, I'm gonna go with MD1.

And that reminds me, I still haven't gotten round to playing Ranger 3 (even though it came two years and a half ago).

  4. I LOVE that Channel is actually an option. And that one guy voted for it. Whoever you are, you're amazing. Or a moron. Or both!

Also I picked Colosseum. I just enjoy it the most.

    1. What really amuses me is that MD1 is going to be in the final poll, and it's very likely that so will MD2. If that happens, I'm expecting a big fat zero for MD1...

    2. This is a reply to CB. Four as of writing it. Personally, I only played the TCG, Mystery Dungeon 1 (beginning), Rumble Blast, and Conquest. My hypothesis is that it will be a close match between Conquest and Mystery Dungeon 2...

    3. If I had my way, that's what it'd come down to. But I'm not the one deciding, that's not what polls are about, right?

  5. MD1 is out and out DESTROYING competition this time around. And I agree. Unless you like the first Ranger, or REALLY like Pinball 2/XD, there's no competition at all here.

    1. Infact, in my opinion, the only real shockers going on right now are Colosseum TIEING XD despite one being vastly superior to the other, Ranger 1 being so low (well, it was kind of bad, and contained that FUCKING STEELIX), and Trozei not having a single vote. I never owned it myself, but come on, it wasn't THAT bad of a game! CHANNEL is fucking beating it!

  6. I didn't play a lot of Gen 3 spin-offs, but even though MD1 was one of the rare I actually tried, I won't give it my vote... Yeah, the story was pretty good, but the gameplay was so tedious ! I had to spend like 15 minutes in menus before each of my team's outings. Plus, being forced to use the leader and its partner throughout the entire main storyline, I found most of my Pokemon being vastly underleveled for the post-game, and I thought that EXP grinding was even more tedious there than in the main games.
I have yet to try its sequel, but I'm trying to find it. Even if I do love it, it won't erase the bad first impression and make me reconsider my opinion of its prequel.

My vote goes to Pinball 2... I didn't play it a whole lot, but I've always liked pinball games, even if those feelings aren't mutual. xD

  7. I'll say MD1, mainly because Trozei is crap, Dash is crap, Channel is stupid, Ranger is mediocre, Colloseum I never played and looks like crap, XD also looks like crap, Pinball 2 is okay, and MD1 is best.
