Poll: What is the big January 8 reveal?

(Yeah, let's try the poll functionality again. Hopefully it works better now...)

So we're being promised a big announcement on January 8. And quite frankly, it could be a lot of things... it's gotta be something major if they're teasing us like that. Even if it's just a crappy spin-off. I can't imagine it being an event or something like that. My gut tells me it's related to gen 6... we're just about getting into the timeframe where our first gen 6 info should appear. It would be a bit earlier in the calendar year than it was in gen 5, but then again, with BW2's early release and the notion that eight months might be a little long for the Plasma anime arc, a summer release might not be out of the question. Besides, remember how Diamond and Pearl were announced TWO YEARS before they were released? Of course this isn't happening again, but still. Point is, this wouldn't be outrageous timing for something related to gen 6.

So, what do you think it is? Of course you get nothing but bragging rights if you call it, but hey, bragging rights are awesome in their own way.

  1. As much as I'd like for an actual decent Mystery Dungeon game on the 3DS, I know it's not going to be another spin-off.

My theory, as I stated in the last post about this, was that we will probably get some generation 6 pokemon revealed to us with a release around 2013. It's a safe bet considering the early release of BW2 and the anime, as Slow has said so that would make sense to me.

As for the actual poll though, it was a little redundant to have an option for both generation 6 pokemon or generation 6 games since...they both lead to the same thing. Perhaps they will be evolutions of previous pokemon, perhaps they will be entirely separate families of pokemon (like gen 4 and 5's reveal respectively).

  2. I'd love to think this would be gen 6, but iirc there have been several "big" announcements before that ended up just being arbitrary events - especially since the new movie will release what will supposedly be an ExtremeSpeed Genesect. Even though the movie is a ways away from being released, this is the kind of dick move I could expect from Gamefreak. On the other hand, they have shown new Pokemon before the announcement of the actual games (Zoroark, Chatot, Manaphy), so I suppose it is possible.

The interesting thing about all of this is that the information was released after a B2W2 trailer. I wonder what that means...

  3. They have revealed new main-series Pokemon games lately by showing silhouettes of new Pokemon, and I have no reason to believe they wouldn't reveal gen 6 in the same way. I'm still not getting my hopes up, though. Announcements for 'big things' in Pokemon come several times a year, and they're rarely interesting.

Then again, my faith in a Slowflake analysis is stronger than my doubt in Pokemon marketing. It's not often you're wrong about something related to Pokemon.

  4. It makes sense, 2 days before the final episode of the Unova league, filler arc beginning, them being one of the first with 3DS dev kits. Surely this has to be something to do with Generation 6.

  5. Is it not standard for new Pokemon to be revealed before the new games? If it is something in the vein of the next generation, then it would be about one or two or so Pokemon, like with Lucario (though he had a movie) and the Zoroark line...

  6. It's either a new event or a spin-off that will make the last of the unavailable hidden abilities available, including the ones that can't be passed on through breeding such as Hustle to Rufflet and Clear Body to Klink

  7. It's the return of Slowflake's Winners and Losers column!

Or, more likely, it's a sixth gen pokemon.

    1. Yeah, I wish his new column was there. Granted, the Star of the Year will probably be Tornadus-Therian or Kyurem White. Turd will be either Thundurus-Therian or Kyurem Black. I eagerly await his opinions...Ea...ger...ly...

S-sorry. Um, well, like I said, the Gen 6 Pokemon is probably the safest bet...

    2. I'm not doing this anymore. It gets longer and longer every year, and with the time it takes to write it it's no longer worth it.

    3. Can you at least tell us who the Star and Turd of the Year is, or was I pretty much right?...

    4. No, I can't tell you, because this year, you the people decide! Expect more details in the next few days.

    5. Okaaay...just be happy most of your regulars here and on YouTube are not the people who immediately list all Gen 1 and 2 Pokemon in the Winners and all Gen 5 Pokemon in the Losers category. Though I expect Tornadus to get many votes in the Winners part...

    6. Well at least it's worth a try.

  8. Now the English Twitter feed is talking about it. Yeah, it's probably Gen 6. That or they're massive trolls.

  9. Yep, Serebii just put this on his site: "As we posted a week ago, there is some big news coming on January 8th 2013 from the official Japanese site. However, the US site has just posted a note saying to view their site on the same day, indicating that the upcoming announcement is going to have worldwide implications."

If it isn't Gen VI related, than damn they're cruel.
