RSE remakes' final nail in the coffin

Well, none of us thought they were going to happen this generation (at least I really hope so), but still, if you weren't convinced by the generalized mad rush to end gen 5 ASAP, as well as Junichi Masuda strongly implying not a single man-hour had been invested into such a project late last year, today's announcement will crush any hope you had.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Ruby and Sapphire's Japanese release, various retailers are going to be distributing Kyogre (for White 2 owners) and Groudon (for Black 2 owners). I mean, just think about it. If they were planning on making these remakes, why the hell would they distribute Kyogre and Groudon to begin with? Yes, the answer is as obvious as it sounds. They're. Not. Happening. At least not for the next, say, two years and a half at best.

  1. And we easily could start another "Black 2 got screwed over when it comes to exclusives" argument all over again too, but that would be mean.

    1. Heracross for Pinsir (unlike Cottonee for Petilil, getting the other one is hard and is worse for W2 because you get a nonGuts Heracross), Lopunny for Delcatty, Garchomp for NOTHING, Registeel for Regice... yeah, Black Kyurem sucks and the Unova ones still are a harsh deal, but Black 2 didn't get screwed by exclusives.

      ...

So, in other news, it seems Magnagate won't reveal more starter options like I thought it would. Ah well, Axew (Dual Chop at 13?) and Pikachu (Was good in 1, was better in 2, and still has Shock Wave, Discharge, Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave, Agility, and Quick Attack) should kill everything until I get Dunsparce (DAT MOVEPOOL) and destroy the game.

    2. Axew and Pikachu are going to be a project to evolve, though.

    3. Technically, the Regis aren't exclusives because you can get them all in a single game, you just need to get the key from the opposite version, which doesn't count as a "trade".

While I do agree that Heracross is better than Pinsir, for an in-game purpose, Pinsir can do the job just as well. Also, Mold Breaker is more useful in-game than Guts. Competitively it's another story, but other than that, the difference hardly makes up for the other unfair exclusives distribution.

    4. Eh. Stones may be a little hard to get, but I doubt they'll be some big huge challenge, and honestly if Axew was in Sky I'd have Haxorus well before I'm actually able to evolve it (And I'd be close in MD1 most times I play that) And besides, Emolga can fill in for Pikachu if you so desire - it has basically the same movepool.

As for the Regis, true, but by that logic you have both games and can trade - traded pokemon usually being better for ingame purposes anyway. And I ABUSE ingame Guts on regular runs. That Burn won't kill you with fifty Hyper Potions and all battles ending in 1 turn!

    5. It's getting burned in the first place that can be problematic. Sure, in Black 2 and White 2 you can find a Flame Orb around mid-game if you spend many hours in the Battle Subway, but it wasn't that easy before. And I'd rather waste a few hours to catch an amazing Pokemon on the get go like Lapras than grind for BPs to tranform an already very strong Pokemon into an absolute OHKOing monster. To each his own I guess... but really, Heracross was the only single exclusive that had some appeal to me in Black 2 and I knew my little brother would buy it a few days after I got White 2, so there was no point.

Oh yeah, and I forgot that Black 2 also have Latios, but it didn't make any difference for me, because I prefer Latias anyway. I shouldn't have brought this up, I knew it. xD

    6. Mattman: The problem is, who knows how many dungeons will allow only you and your partner the first time through? MD2 went into overkill on that one.

Oh, and besides, Pignite gets Arm Thrust at level 17. So if multi-hit moves are your thing, I'd go with that instead.

    7. Oh, and if Flame Charge works like I think it will... well, let's just say I have a pretty good idea what my starter's going to be.

    8. Ooh, Flame Charge, good point. Not Arm Thrust, though, they always bar the evolutions till the postgame and I doubt this game will break the streak. Still... Emolga as a Chu surrogate...

Anyway, if Leaf Tornado works like Thunderbolt (which I feel it will), Snivy will be decent, what with that, Energy Ball, and Bullet Seed. Oshawott... well, it gets Aqua Jet and the ice crew (Ice Beam and Blizzard), but Dunsparce blows that away. Tepig NEEDS Flame Charge to be broken, because otherwise, what do you have? Flamethrower, and I guess Fire Blast (which blows Ember away on all but PP by the way), and Rollout if you can stomache piss accuracy, but until you evolve it's... tepid. *rimshot*

    9. Look at the screenshots we already have. Seems like we don't have that evolution delay anymore, which may be why they slashed down the starter selection so harshly. I'm going to miss Bulbasaur, but hey, what can you do...

I'm sort of hoping there's a way to get tutor moves, because Heat Wave would be absolutely amazing. And you forgot about Giga Drain on Serperior.

    10. Do you think we can beat a record of the comment with the most unrelated replies ? Just by adding mine right there, I think we're off to a good start. :P

    11. Probably not. And the problem with GD is that I usually can use an Oran Berry for the same effect.

Didn't know about the starter changes. I stick by my saying Samuwott is outclassed by Dunsparce (and unless I'm reading this wrong, some dungeons you NEED to have more than hero and partner), but Arm Thrust makes Emboar... a little cooler. Still has movepool issues though. Unless Scald is ranged, in which case we're in buisness.

    12. If you want slightly unrelated news, Victini's getting some new toys to play with in the form of Blue Flare, Bolt Strike, and Glaciate. I think special Victini's going to get a lot more use real soon.

Glaciate lets it finally have bolt-beam coverage, not to mention slowing down faster checks. Blue Flare isn't as strong or as accurate as Overheat, but it's stronger than Searing Shot/Fusion Flare and doesn't drop your sp.atk, so it lets special Victini stay in longer. Physical Victini is also really going to like Bolt Strike as a step up from Fusion Bolt. I still don't see it escaping UU just yet, but some new toys to play with will definitely let it see a rise in usage.

    13. Pretty neat in my opinion. I really hope they'll continue to try to market it a bit more. It might be just a based 600 Pokemon like we see each Gen, but I like its typing and its background info. A cheerful Pokemon leading its comrades to victory and producing infinite energy associated with the orange color. You can't go wrong with that.

  2. I'm kinda glad. I never was too big on R/S/E anyways. But you know how fans are, they are all like "OMG THIS MEENS ITS CONFIRMED!!!1!" I just wonder about gamefreak's plans for gen 6. How do they plan to make it on 3DS?

  3. Nowadays the idiots who think we'll get the RS remakes in Gen V (even though it's practically ended) are the same idiots who think we'll get BW3. Yeah, there actually some people on BMGF who think that'll happen.

Also, though this is a bit off-topic, read what someone said on ONM:

"Crazy people galore here if you think Gen2 wasn't one of the better games. If you think one of the other gens is better, that's fine, but if you think its the worst, then honestly? You're an idiot. Sorry.

But yeah, as I said in the last topic, 99% of fans who've played all five gens will tell you 3 or 4 are the worst. That's not saying either are particularly bad, they just struggle to standup to the peaks hit by Gen2 and 5."

That guy really f*cking offended me, and I'm sure it offends most people here too. But yeah, really?

    1. That's a pretty damn loud one percent we got here then.

    2. I wouldn't get offended over it, man. Most of what ONM says/prints is nonsense anyway.

    3. No, it wasn't ONM themselves who said that, it was a user on the forums. But yeah, apparently we're all idiots, and the people who actually think Gen II is brilliant are really super intelligent in comparison? Funny, I always thought it was the other way round.

    4. I tend to stay out of arguments like those, but I honestly thought gen 4 was the best so far. They're probably just jealous that HG/SS was way better than G/S/C.

    5. The weird thing is, the people who prefer gen 2 and the ones who prefer gen 5 are usually not the same. The former are typically the less hardcore Genwunners, while the latter... well, I don't think there's a name for it, but most of us would fall under that category.

    6. My favourites are 3 and 4 so...I dunno what that says about me.
