New poll: Gender in video games

This question is simple. When you're given the choice of your character's gender in a game, which do you pick and why?

  1. This mainly applies to Pokemon, but other games as well. I play through these games so many times that it's nice to change up my player character every once in a while.

  2. I usually choose my own gender, but I guess there's no harm in changing things up and choosing the opposite gender instead.

  3. I usually pick my own gender, but after replaying the same game over and over again, I might chose the opposite, because I'm a badass like that.

Ok, no, actually, it's just for the heck of it and to see if they changed any dialogue in some cases

    1. If you have read my comment, you know that I very much understand why that is. Yeah, good thing I have a real girlfriend, lest I pine over a girl who does not really exist...

    2. Acctually its beacuse the manga...Black/Hilbert had a weird aditude and lifestyle,While White\Hilda had a better more busy personality...

  5. I used fem-Shep in Mass Effect, but I'm accustomed to using my own name for the player character in Pokémon games and it'd be a little weird for people to see a name that can only be male attached to a female sprite.

  6. I normally go with male, but I'll sometimes switch things up for the sake of seeing dialogue changes, etc.

  7. As attractive as I find protagonists like Hilda, I usually go with the male choice...

  8. Unless it's something set in the canon of a specific universe (ie. male Revan), then my own gender. Female.

  9. Randomnly. For Pokemon anyway.

For others, I'm not sure. For Mass Effect though I always play as Female Shepard because her VA is very good. Nothing against Male Shep's VA though.

    1. I often choose the male character but it depends on how girly the female one are. If she are cool i can choose her. In pokemon i only find Leaf to more appealing over the male choice. Her design is my favourite of all playable characters. I have never played Crystal but Kriss could be a decent choice. I still don,t understand why they toke away Kriss and replaced her whit the worst playable character in pokemon ever, Lyra. I honestly hate her design. I hope they don,t do something like this again if they ever remake R/S/E. That would be awful. I am little feministic but again i still often choose the male character.

  11. I liked the option when it was introduced in Crystal, and chose it out of novelty back then. After that, I just usually chose the female character because the design is usually better. In other games, I decide based on other factors. If the character is voiced, I find female voices preferable to male voices.

  12. I change it up depending on the day. I almost never name them after myself anyway, usually sticking to manga color names for them so i feel no qualms about not playing my own gender.
