Poll change: PC vs. console habits

As it turns out, most of you who visit this blog have been with me for a long time. 27 followed me from the beginning, or close to it, while 78 started watching me while I was LPing Crystal. Putting these together, that's 105 out of 261 voters who are in my first 1000 subscribers out of almost 10000. Impressive. The Emerald era still has the most votes with 87, which is no surprise considering that's when my viewership exploded. 44 people started watching me with the Platinum era, only 19 with the Soul Silver era, and six of you have yet to experience my Pokémon LPs growing as they are being done.

Next question: how many PC games do you play vs. console and handheld games? (Edit: of course, emulation doesn't count.) I'm fully expecting the votes to be heavily skewed in the favor of consoles, especially considering my LPing pedigree. Out of 18 LPs (including the incoming Pokémon White), I covered only two PC games - and one of them was a fan-made Flash game, while the other is 20-year old abandonware.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm almost exclusively a console gamer, with Diablo being one of the rare exceptions to the rule. And even then, my first introduction to the series was done through a friend who had the PS1 version of the first game... and the unanimous verdict on that port, as well as the mind-numbingly bad N64 version of Starcraft, is hardly positive. I didn't have a PS1, so I bought the PC version, and I was instantly sucked in.

  1. The only reason I don't play more on PC is because of the lack of power on my computers to play those games. It's not that they're bad computers, it's just that the power your computer needs to play those games and not get 6 fps is ridiculous (I have a 2 month old desktop that only runs Minecraft at 12 fps...)

I'm also going to be that guy and mention that your next post is # 100. Please do not do anything special for it.

  2. Pretty much the only ones I play on my Crap Mac are a game based on the Light Bike sequence in Tron and I Wanna Be the Guy (have not touched that in a while). Emulated games do not count...

  3. Man, we all know ageing is optional in the Pokémon world!

    1. Not really, it's close enough to emulation, in a stretched sort of way.

  6. I barely ever play PC games - and I only play them at school, at that. I prefer console and handheld games, and I probably wouldn't be able to fit in playing PC games as well as watching videos, going on forums, etc, especially as I have much less free time in the week than I do on the weekend.

  7. The only home Console I have is an old PS2. One GBA SP, a busted DSi and a 3DS as far as handhelds go.

Most of my games are PC games. This is because my favourite genre is RTS and console ports of these are bad. I had the misfortune of playing Starcraft 64 and no, just no.

    1. BUT YOU CAN CONTROL 18 UNITS AT ONCE!!!

Just kidding, 18 is still not enough, especially if you play Zerg. At least Starcraft 2 got rid of that cap.

  8. I have well over 100 games on Steam, but I prefer consoles for everything but FPS games. (Those are FAR superior on a PC, with mouse-and-keyboard controls. Another reason to dislike the 360.) I have a strong fondness for indie games, though.

  9. I've been a die-hard Nintendo fanboy up until I decided to buy an Xbox 360 in late 2008. It was fine, but then I bought a new computer last year, discovered Steam, and the rest is history. I'd say it's about 50/50 nowadays, I'm either playing my PC or a Nintendo console.

  10. I mostly use my PC for emulation. I do have a fistfull of games on Steam, though. But I use my handhelds WAY more than my PC.

  11. Man oh man am I in the minority for getting into you because of Ken's Labyrinth, and I just happen to be a pokemoner. Yeah, I just play PC games and Pokemon on the DS, I gave up on consoles since the huge disappointment of Gamecube, even though I heard Wii was Nintendo's comeback. I don't know, I guess I just grew up and changed my tastes.
