Products getting smaller just so the companies making them spend less for each item - and increase the price anyway. Frozen pizzas you buy at the supermarket for example, they're definitely an inch or two smaller than they were a few years ago, and we still keep paying the same price - if we're lucky. I ran into another case today, as I went to buy a new belt. It was the same size as the old one... except it really wasn't. Putting both side by side, the new one is at least a good two inches shorter. So I lost three belt holes not to my own gluttony, but to some company who wanted to cut down on the leather. If you're going to make the belt two inches shorter, how about changing the number on it to something more accurate?

ReplyDeleteIt comes in the form of game cases, too. Many companies are putting forth 'recyclable cases' now, which is basically the same thing as the normal cases, just with thinner plastic and holes. It's not really a huge concern, but I really don't like the feel of the lightweight cases, they seem like knockoffs. Oh, and game manuals? They used to be thick, colorful, and full of information. Now the only thick ones are from Nintendo and they're only thick because they contain two or more languages, and we're lucky if we get color. Some games come with a little slip that says 'The manual can be found online'. I know the conservation of resources is important, but goddamn I want the old stuff back.
ReplyDeleteOh, damn those shrinking pizzas. If you ever go to a football game (Which I can guess none of you people do)... you WILL notice the difference. I've been going to Pitt college football games at Heinz Field for the last 8 or so years, and back when I got there they had these Red Baron things that were almost the size of the box. Still SMALL, of course, but filling. Now they've got this offbrand, soggy, SWILL that has a diameter about 2/3 the size of the SAME SIZE BOX. Meaning it's much, MUCH smaller.
