BW2 confirmed to be a sequel

And you know how much sense that makes... just about every logical argument you could make, aside from the title, pointed to anything but that. Time to man up and admit I was wrong. At least we won't see the legions of pitchforks from whiners calling for a boycott. Now to see how it'll turn out. And as much as I have a hard time believing it'll work, the last time I doubted Gamefreak they seemingly went out of their way to make my concerns null and void.

So, what does that mean for my LPs? Nothing. I still want to see what the game will be like before I decide to LP the first game... it might have a different story, but otherwise be almost identical, at which point I'll have quite the condrunum on my hands.

  1. I'm looking forward to seeing what they'll do with it. BW, while having a pretty decent plot for a Pokemon game, felt somewhat incomplete to me. I'm hoping the sequels will change up the formula from the first game, maybe at least killing the linearity.

  2. Now that the games have been revealed as sequels, I'm a lot happier. Perhaps we'll see some gym leader changes and some differences in the cities and towns.

  3. I'm pleasantly surprised. O.o" (Called it)
I hope there is no obligation to own the first game to be able to play the sequels, because considering how I was waiting for the deluxe version before buying a Gen 5 game, I'll be pissed off.
(And I'm sure I'm not the only one)

    1. You're probably going to have to buy the first game to be up to speed story-wise, at the very least.

    2. Not necessarily, I followed closely the first playthrough of Pokemon Black of my brother since it was his first Pokemon game and barely knew anything about the gameplay.
(The fact that he had received the US version of the game didn't really help, but I prefer to help him myself than letting him grow with the horrible french translation.)
I was right next to him, giving advices, while he was beating the elite four and I saw the ending.
And I'm ashamed that the parts of the story I didn't assist were filled by a ROM of Pokemon White I played until it was time to beat Cynthia and the Elite Four Rematch... (Also I had caught Kyurem too)
I stopped there after I made my 2012 resolution to never pirate anything I don't own again and I deleted the Emulator along with the ROM and its save file.
I know it's already too late anyway since I had pretty much completed the game, but still, I really wanted to keep my resolution this year.

  4. If Serebii is correct - I'll get a friend of mine to doublecheck because there's no direct translations on the site - then colour me surprised.

  5. I still think that games are just pumped up versions from black and white, even after corocoro-scans. As you said, it might have different story, but so have had Crystal, Emerald and Platinum in their own rights.
One thing that speaks against sequels is TIME. It's been way too little time for gamefreak/nintendo to create brand new game and get over with it. Either the games are, as speculated just deluxe-versions or they're REALLY rushed sequels.

Apologies about bad english, not my native languange.

    1. But no-one knows how long BW2 have been in development other than Nintendo and Game Freak themselves. It could have started as long ago as 2006, which is confirmed to be when BW started development.

    2. Why would they develop four games of same name at same time? And why would they start making sequel same time with the original two games? That really doesn't make sense. Even if they started making bw2 @ 2008 it's still a lot less developement time than with BW.

    3. No it isn't. BW were released in 2010, 4 years after development started in 2006. If BW2 started development in 2008, there'd be a 4 year gap too.

  6. Wow, every logical statement I had was indeed wrong. Well, hopefully this game will NOT be the Sonic Next Gen of Pokemon (you would say that would be Colloseum)...

  7. "Whut. The fuck."

^ Was my reaction when I saw the news. I then went on to think "those covers look pretty badass..."

According to what I've read, it took Game Freak about a year and a half to develop B/W's characters and plot. Now, when I first read this, I thought it was laughable. I mean, sure, B/W's story is better than what you'd expect from a Pokémon game, but it's not winning any awards, and the characters are just as cliché and terrible as they've always been. Not that I care, nor am I trying to criticize Game Freak by saying that, mind you. It's just... a year and a half?! Now I find myself thinking that perhaps that time was referring to B/W *and* BW2, if the latter really does turn out to have a new story. B/W was already in development during Generation IV (right? I hope I'm not misinformed here... It's my understanding that they began work on it after D/P was released or something...?), so it's not far-fetched to assume that they *had* to be thinking of the sequel's story as soon as they completed the first game’s. I thought the ending in particular to B/W was horrible; way too abrupt and all that. I wouldn't mind a continuation so soon.

God I love these speculation periods this franchise hurls us into. ♥

I gotta say, though, even though Game Freak's throwing us some curve balls this gen, they're still playing it safe, in a way; even if it turns out to be a new story, the game itself still has to take place in the same region, and more than likely have the same gym leaders, etc. At least they can use the time that's passed since the player character defeated them the first time around and the time when you face them in BW2 as an excuse to upgrade everyone's lineup. At least, they'd *better* do that, for fuck's sake... >_>

    1. Yes, according to interviews they started working on B/W in late 2006.

    2. That's pretty amazing when you consider how good HGSS was. How did they *ever* find the time to imbue it with such quality while simultaneously working on Platinum AND B/W, and possibly even brainstorming for BW2, too? They're really outdoing themselves lately...
