Two alternate forms for Kyurem, Meloetta revealed, twin deluxe versions!

According to a cinema listing, two new forms for Kyurem have been revealed, one based on fire and one on electricity. This falls in line with the two signature moves it doesn't have yet, Freeze Bolt and Cold Flare.

In addition, Meloetta is allegedly set to have a part in a small movie tying in to movie 15, so that's two new event Pokémon in the same year. This has huge implications on generation's 5 pacing, as the fact that there were four new event Pokémon were the only solid reason why gen 5 would last the usual four years. The fact that we'd get a two-for-one deal this year strongly suggests that gen 5 will only last three years, as suggested by the DS' rapid decline and the blazing pace of the anime (the group being at Mistralton a year and a half in). This means Gray will be coming out this year, immediately followed by gen 6 as soon as next year. So it seems that the last chance for those still hoping against all hope for a gen 3 remake soon has been utterly crushed, if this is true.

The situation is probably going to evolve rapidly, I'll update this post when it does.

Update: This just in, the poster is legit! This is the big announcement on Pokémon Smash. Those expecting Gray will have to wait a little longer, but the Kyurem forms are a dead giveaway that it's going to happen just as planned.

Update 2: "A little longer" amounts to fifteen minutes, as it turns out. And we have a real shocker on our hands, as we don't get a single deluxe version, but rather two, dubbed Black 2 and White 2. We also get a closer look at Kyurem's new forms, and they look like it's merging with Reshiram and Zekrom. Can't wait to see where they go from there. By the way, those two games are for the DS, as expected. Told you it took too much in the way of resources to redo everything from the ground up on the 3DS.

Update 3: Two more things. The names of the Kyurem forms will be revealed next week, and the US site has already been updated with them and the existence of BW2. Does this mean we'll get a faster localization than we usually do? One can only hope...

Update 4: BW2 is confirmed to come out in Japan... in June! I'm surprised because it's so close, but at the same time they really want to send this out the door ASAP, before the DS starts becoming a collector's item. This also means we're likely to see the international release before the end of the year.

Update 5: I think this needs to be addressed... a lot of people seem to think this is a direct sequel instead of a deluxe version. I don't know how they could draw that conclusion, other than the title, but the odds of that are almost nil. You know why it's on the DS, right? It's because they needed to copypaste vast amounts of data from BW1 (almost the entire game in fact), and you can't do that from a DS game to a 3DS one. If this were a brand new game, releasing it on the DS at this point would be senseless, over a full year after the introduction of a 3DS that gained lots of steam in the last few months. With that in mind, let's have a moment of silence for those unaware, unwashed masses who WILL buy it at release expecting a sequel, pop it in their DS or 3DS and drop an F-nuke.

Update 6: Kyurem form names revealed! Black Kyurem and White Kyurem. Not much effort went into these, huh? I would've much prefered Yin Kyurem and Yang Kyurem, but oh well.

  1. I don't think it's entirely accurate to say that the gen 3 remakes won't happen, it just won't happen in this generation.
They are eager to move onto genration 6 and I can't blame them. Just look at the 3DS sales and heck, even the anime is flying along.

Now,I speculated before that Kyurem would be getting a dragon/fire typing and a dragon/electric typing, so that will remain to be seen.

My biggest hope is that they don't rush Generation 6.

    1. I did say the word "soon". Even using the Blizzard definition of the term, it's not happening in the foreseeable future. 2015 at the very earliest.

    2. I'd say that's about right, though that does raise the question of whether or not they'd bring out Generation 6 in 2013 (I doubt it).

  2. "According to Serebii himself, this isn't confirmed yet..."
"According to a cinema listing, two new forms for Kyurem have been confirmed..."

    Nice editing there, 'flake. :)
(I suggest "sighted" instead of "confirmed" in the latter case.)

    1. Hey, when you're expected to report on those news in a flash you don't think much about your wording. ESPECIALLY in your second language.

By the way, "confirmed" is now confirmed to be accurate. Just nitpicking.

    2. It wasn't at the time of writing.

Sorry! I keep forgetting English isn't your L1 when you're in text. You're just that good at it.

  3. So, two deluxe versions. Very interesting. It is somewhat troubling that they would be this money-hungry, but this is par for the course for the franchise. Anyway, I think I see an epic LP on the horizon!

  4. Interesting. So, which one will YOU get and LP? It depends on which Forme I feel looks and plays better for me...

    1. Looks like it's going to be White 2, unless either I have a good excuse not to use Lilligant, or Kyurem's Zekrom form is that much better than the other one.

    2. If they turn out to be different games completely (i.e. new storyline altogether) will you be doing an LP of White?

    4. They won't, but if they did than I wouldn't have much of a choice, would I?

    5. *then. Sorry about that, for some reason it came out as "than".

  5. So we'll have Pokemon Gray and Pokemon Grey?

  6. This ruins the point of the 3rd version, especially after Emerald and specially Platinum.

Oh well, can't wait to see what comes out of this.

    1. Not necessarily, they'll just throw in the usual improvements in both versions. And last time I checked, that's the entire point of these deluxe versions to begin with.

    2. I guess it is more of a subjective notion then: the paired versions see each one side of the story, then the third version condenses it into a single one, at least in my view, and this doesn't quite fit with that.

At least I hope they don't have different move tutors.

    3. I don't think it's something they could get away with. B/W's TM system made it so that version exclusive TMs were quite possible, but they decided not to do that.

  7. "The names of the Kyurem forms will be revealed next week"

    Kyurom and Kyuram. Calling it.

    1. I've been calling them Kyureshiram and Zekyurom, but Kyurom and Kyuram are pleasing to me as a linguist and classicist.

    2. Sadly, the real names are even more unoriginal than this... But eh... not complaining, it's just a name after all.
This will be a real mess for the French translation though, even if I'm always buying the U.S. versions, I can't help but take a look at those ridiculous french names when the translation is done.
Ironically, the huge amount of hatred nostalgia fags have for the new Pokemon in France partly comes from the names.

  8. Haha. The news is so popular that it's trending on Twitter. I think the people thinking its going to be a continuation of the storyline, as in, a sequel to B/W, are jumping to conclusions, though. I mean, sure, maybe in the post game, but not before, despite the titles.

    1. You just know there are people who will be rushing into stores, expecting a sequel, then when they get home and pop this in they'll go ballistic.

  9. Wow... massive announcement indeed. Never saw it coming. Now it'll take an eternity for me to chose which one to buy, dammit ! If most of the versions exclusives don't change (both the Pokemon and the version exclusive city), I think I'll buy White 2, mostly because I prefer the White Forest over the Black City.
But I guess we'll get a lot of info after the Japanese release anyway, so there's no reason for me to be worried about my choice right away.

  10. Time to buy both all over again

  11. Am I the only one who is slightly confused now that Black Kyurem is on the BLACK version and White Kyurem on the WHITE one? I mean they changed it up before and now back to normal... Do they just want to screw with our minds a bit?

    1. Not necessarily, it could simply mean that something might happen to N's Pokemon.

This guy... I don't know if it's on purpose or not, but he's coming up with absolute nonsense and any of my attempts to reason with them got literally swarmed by countless new comments.

God I hate such uninformed trolls like that.

    2. Once I asked him why he came all up with all these weird hoaxes and fake information. He thought I was joking. Which means that he's just trying to brainwash his viewers who probably don't know any better.

Anyway, I didn't really like Kyurem before, but with its new formes, I love it. Especially the Electric one on the M15 poster.

  13. Aye, looks like when these games come out, we're having another LP like Pokemon Red and SoulSilver, where there is no easy way out... It'll just feel more awkward that the title will be "Let's Play Pokemon White 2" with no White 1 LP, nice going Game Freak

But I do understand why their doing this. Considering Pokemon Black and White were much more different than other games (Gold & Silver and Diamond & Pearl are good examples) it would be hard to make Opelucid City interesting when it's not a historical landmark or bumping Cyber City, or Black City/White Forest turning into Gray... Something. See what I mean?
