Incoming Gray announcement? (Again?)

Junichi Masuda is at it again with cryptic hints at future projects! When asked when the next main series game (obviously Gray) would be announced, he answered by suggesting that we watch Pokémon Smash next Sunday (that'd be Saturday night for us in the Americas). Is this time going to be the right one? We all remember the last time we thought this was it... and the time before... and the time before... and the time before... But the question was about main series games, so this may be it! Not to mention, Keldeo was just revealed, so the usual timing for an announcement has been reached.

So now would be a good time to ask: what would you like to see in Gray? Personally the most important thing I want is an Unova Dex expansion. Let's face it, 150 just isn't enough. Also, gym leader rematches, I can't stress that enough! Move tutors would be great, and I'm expecting that we're going to get some of them. Expand the Battle Subway to include other styles of battle, like the Battle Frontier in Emerald and Platinum, maybe? I would also like the other six Plasma sages to have more of a role than just arrive, say a few lines and leave, maybe be fought in battle too. As a slight extra, I'd be interested in another DW gen 5 Pokémon or two, like Musharna and Darmanitan in B/W.

Edit: And the Vs. Seeker... how'd I forget about that?

  1. I'd kill someone if this wasn't Pokemon Grey, but MD3 or Ranger 4 instead. It just seems to similar a situation to the new Pokemon that we were nearly promised back in 2008 - Shaymin Sky Forme, Rotom's formes and Notched Ear Pichu all annoyed us, and it wasn't until Zoroark that we got a new Pokemon.

I think all of those things you thought of will probably be in Grey seeing as Emerald and Platinum had most of those updates as well. But along with that, there should be a new area like the Distortion World.

    Well, anything but this stuff:

    1. First rule of the ONM UK: never listen to a word ONM say. Seriously. They haven't a clue.
The only point I'd agree with is updating the Pokémon's cries: not to the anime counterparts, heck no, but maybe taking the Game Boy's blurry sounds and updating them?

Either way, I have my fingers crossed that this is Grey. The one thing I'd really, REALLY like to see is either an introduction of Hidden Abilities into the game, or a much easier, more expansive, and just generally better Dream World. Or scrap the Dream World. Because it's the part that tipped me over the "fuck that, not worth training them in-game" line.

  2. Aside from what you've already mentioned, I'd actually like to see the seasons play more of a role. There was practically no difference between spring, summer, and autumn--winter was the only season that made drastic changes to the terrain/encounter rate. They could make flowery pokemon/grass-types more common in spring like how they made ice-types more common in winter, etc.

  3. Along with the Dex expansion, the Gym Leaders need to have some serious upgrades to their travesties of rosters. As it stands, infinitesimal doesn't even begin to describe how minuscule the threat they pose to you is.

    1. Actually, that's one of the main reasons why I want to see an expansion. Though trainers in general can benefit from it too, I can only see those elemental monkeys so many times before I start to cringe.

  4. We're probably going to get the same standard stuff all deluxe games get, but I personally would like the following:
    - Expanded Gym Leader rosters
    - Traditional Elite Four format so that we don't have all four members using the same levels
    - Let us battle the Six Sages, Shadow Triad, and Anthea and Concordia
    - Bring back the VS Seeker or a similar analogue
    - Make the X-Transceiver more useful. Maybe use that to get Gym Leader rematches?
    - Add more places to use Dive, seems pointless to have it usable in only one area
    - Maybe expand Unova a little, since the in-game map does have a few locations with nothing there
    - For the love of Arceus add a Safari Zone

    1. THIS. That is exactly why I sighed every time Plasma popped up, because I knew I was about to fight umpteen Patrats. No challenge! Less damn monkeys too. Fuck's sake.

  6. I'm still not getting my hopes up. Masuda is the king of all trolls, after all. While we're in the speculating kind of mood, it would be cool if Kyurem got a new forme. Or at least maybe some more move tutors, like for the elemental punches. But I'm getting ahead of myself! I have low expectations, though the time seems right for the third game of generation 5. Could just be the new Battle Revolution or something.

Also, ten bucks says that it the third game (if there IS a third game) will not be called Gray.

  7. More Dive, Safari Zone, VS Seeker, some respectable levels from wild pokemon you face with surf, less wild encounters in general, make Chargestone Cave less annoying. Don't know exactly how, but dang it, I hate that place.

    1. I have a perfectly reasonable explanation for this.

      A WILD BOLDORE APPEARS!

Also, can't believe I forgot about the Vs. Seeker.

    2. Chargestone Cave is the one with Ferroseed and Klink, Slowflake. (It's the Iron Barbs that make Chargestone annoying.) You're thinking of Mistralton Cave, which has Boldore. (Victory Road has them too.)

Boldore and Ferroseed are the two standing exceptions to my new policy of not running from random battles.

  9. Surprised you haven't mentioned that Shiny Larvitar.

    1. Why would I? It's not a downloadable event or anything.

  10. I would like to see the four champions (blue, lance, steven, and cynthia) in the resort house, theres four seasons so have each of them there during a certain season. Also having a safari zone where pokemon can have their DW ability would be nice.

    1. That would be a bit redundant with the lore, but a good idea. Ideas for Pokemon available via the main game with their DW abilities are: Chandelure (may as well give it every edge it can get), all the Gen 5 starters (mainly Serperior), and Blaziken. Another idea, maybe have event Legendaries able to be captured, since some of us got into Pokemon after Jirachi, Deoxys, and the Regigigas that unlocks the other Regis (not him) were distributed. The only ones I got were 2 Victini and the Event Mewtwo (useless to me, since I have a Level 100 one). Though, that also would not make sense in the game lore either...

    2. Sure, let's give Baton Pass to Speed Boost Blaziken, that way it'll remain uber until gen 11. Serperior and Chandelure aren't a very good idea either, just because they're not quite broken on the DW ladder doesn't mean they wouldn't be on the regular one. At least wait until gen 6.
