Do people really think this way?

Someone suggested that I should do a Skyrim LP (you know, that game there are already seven million LPs of on YouTube), and when I expressed my exasperation at how common that request was, and the fact that I didn't give a rat's ass about Skyrim, he answered that I was expected to like it because it's an RPG like Pokémon. Really? People like games just because they're a certain genre now? I'm expected to like Sonic 2006 because I grew up mostly with platformers? Same goes for series, there's no game that looks as much like OoT as Majora's Mask does, and you all know my opinion on THAT.

I'm really hoping no one actually decides which games they like based on those criteria... then again, that would explain the neverending CoD sequels and other best-selling rehashes.

  1. I never really understood why people disliked Majora's Mask. The time mechanic meant it had actually fleshed-out characters with their own lives, motivations and goals.

Also, expecting someone to like Skyrim because they like Pokémon and they're both RPGs is like expecting someone to like Jaffa Cakes because they also like fruit cake and both are cakes.

    1. It also made gameplay into an aggravating trainwreck. And gameplay > story, every single time.

  2. is there any reason why you don't like skyrim? or is it just cause you don't own an xbox?

    1. I never said I didn't like Skyrim, but that I didn't care about it. And having no 360 is a weak, WEAK argument, considering it's also on PS3 and PC.

  3. I was actually looking forward to play Skyrim, seriously, but I didn't have any money to buy it when it came out. But now... after hearing so many spoilers and having to read "that" meme so many freaking times everywhere on the internet... I'm already fed up with the game before even getting to try it, so I don't even see the point in doing so anymore. I think I'll just pass.
Yes, overdoing it with publicity can actually kill gaming experiences, quite sad.

  4. Moreover, Skyrim is perhaps the worst possible game to LP. It's overly long, there's practically no way to 100% it, and playstyles differ so greatly between people that you couldn't please even a quarter of those that watch your videos. It's also incredibly mainstream right now and attracts the worst kinds of people because of it.
