Diablo fansite DDoSes itself over beta key promotion
I've heard of hackers DDoSing other sites before, but never before have I ever heard of a site doing the deed itself. However, from what it seems it happened earlier today, as Blizzard distributed beta keys to various fansites so that they may give them away to their visitors. Most of them opened up a variety of contests, ranging from Facebook to Twitter to trivia contests and everything in between. However, the Diablo 3 Database (D3DB for short) decided to do things a little differently, and currently offers a chance to win one of 450 keys to any registered user who visits any page at all on their site. Do you see where I'm going with this? Not only do you improve your chances of winning by spamming F5 all day, but they're ACTIVELY ENCOURAGING that practice! The obvious objective is to increase apparent traffic to their website, and thus ad money. But it hilariously backfired when the site went down earlier today. It's come back up since then, but the absurdity of such a move was so good I had to share it. How could those monkeys NOT have figured out that they just might overload their servers that way? Karma, guys. Don't mess with it.

It's like that whole "Student Strike" (Not sure about the translation...) story everybody is talking about recently. Most of those who actually support the cause are not doing so for the right reasons and those against it don't even know shit about the situation and only care about their sorry ass. (With all of their studies paid by their parents, of course)
At this rate I think I'll punch somebody next week before the final vote takes place. I'm not kidding.
That's hilarious. Even someone like me, who has never managed even a blog, could tell them that would have happened. Giving each user ONE chance for an entry would have been more than sufficient and a lot more fair to users that don't have the time to mash F5 all day.

It's not Blizzard who did this, but a fansite that's not affiliated with them in any way, shape or form.
