Banjo-Tooie LP: a logistic nightmare?

Recently I suggested that Banjo-Tooie could be the subject of a future LP, and I'm wondering how that would go... it'd be hard to make it work, considering that since the worlds are so much larger than in the first game there'd be a lot of running around and, yes, getting lost. To give you an idea, I'm replaying it right now, and I got my first Jiggy in Terrydactyland about an hour into it... then again, I obtained almost everything that's NOT a Jiggy at this point. So if I were to make such an LP, there would be a lot, and I mean a LOT of cuts in it, and it'd still be rather long to boot. And as you know, I'm rather reluctant to make cuts, and tend to use this ability conservatively.

So my question of the day is, how do you like cuts to be handled in LPs? Used sparingly? Not at all? Or on the opposite, show only the important stuff?

  1. I'd personally want to see them used sparingly, because it's supposed to be a LP, not a perfect 100% TAS Speed-Run with audio commentary. I'd suggest that you keep showing everything unless it takes so much time or tries that you can't find anything else interesting to say until you can progress further. For example, if that timed-race to the top of one the pyramid in Gobi's Valley took you like 10 or more tries (I know you'll probably say that it's not THAT hard, but just try to imagine), I'm sure that nobody would have minded to see a cut after like the 4th or 5th try.
Well, like I said, it's only my opinion.

  2. I would be perfectly fine with you using cuts minimally. Now that the Pokemon LP's are over, this could be your new vlog thingymabob if it's as long as you say it is (I've never played it). Whatever you end up choosing, I'm 100% content with, it is your LP after all.

    1. Problem is, in a Banjo LP you talk about Banjo. And let's be frank, Banjo's fun, but doesn't have the depth Pokémon has. So wandering around trying to find my way around Jolly Roger's Lagoon is going to be even more tedious to watch than to do.

  3. Minimal cuts are best. After watching Chuggaa for a bit, I'm completely turned off to the idea of cutting footage in an LP. He cuts out half the game in his Emerald LP! Banjo-Tooie is a different case, not much will be missed in a cut to a different area. My rule of thumb is this: Keep all the content, including the game and all failures, but cutting to avoid pointless backtracking in video time is perfectly fine. If I recall correctly, though, B-T is littered with warp points and shortcuts. If you can familiarize yourself with those, cuts shouldn't be an issue.

  4. To me, it honestly depends on what it is. If you cut out going through *THIS CAVE* 5 times, I don't mind it. I remember having to do a ton of cutting in my LP just do to visiting an area like 5 times. If I remember, there are a ton of quests in the level which actually take quite a bit of time (such as reuniting the 3 dinosaur kids to their mom.) And also, Terrydactyland generally being the area where you use the train the most, it kinda does drag on. Hence why that's probably my least favorite level just because of how much time EVERYTHING takes. It's weird thinking that Grunty Industries is my favorite level, but I don't remember having to do as much detouring in that one.=

  5. In Chugga's case I'm fine with the cuts, it suits his videos fine, but with your videos minimal cuts are preferred by me, because you find more interesting things to talk about, don't mind going on a somewhat sidetracked discussion which I generally enjoy from you. You're good at keeping things entertaining no matter what's going on. (Judging primarily from your Red LP, I haven't gotten to the other Pokemon LPs yet)

That said, I've never played this game before so it would really come down to whether or not you feel you could find enough things to talk about. If you can't and don't want to cut maybe another game would be better?

  6. Personally I like cuts used on, for example, wild Pokémon battles unless something interesting happens in them. And Final Fantasy, I'm happy with everything except plot and boss battles cut out because, well, that's kind of what they're for. lol

  7. Nah, no cuts would be my preference, unless it's something like backtracking to and from town-to-town, since it would be uneventful anyway.
Could it perhaps be done with a map of some kind?

    1. As far as I know, Mayahem Temple is the only world that was actually mapped out. I can understand that much, the other worlds are just a mess.

  8. To summarize, your style has generally been to show off as much as possible. It's possible to do that with cuts. Once you've explored an area, if you need to go back to it to get some more items or do a quest, it's not exactly prudent that we watch you trek across the map to get to that spot. Just a quick "Meet you back at " and a cut.

  9. Your current approach to cuts - only cutting things like grinding or backtracking a long way just to show a single thing much earlier in the game - is the way to go.

Also, you mentioned how Banjo has much less depth than what can be found in Pokemon games. That's why I silently hope that you're going to LP some other turn-based RPG in the future. The thing that makes your LPs stand out is your informative and entertaining commentary. This works best when the game gives you a lot to talk about and does not force you to focus on platforming elements.
