Apparently I'm not alone...

Seems like I'm not the only one to get emotional over the end of the Pokémon LP series (which hopefully is just a temporary hiatus). The response I've had so far suggests some actual tears were dropped. I'd say it's overkill because I'm not worth it, but at the same time I really appreciate you guys getting into my work.

Something else that I feel the need to point out: as someone in the comments to the finale told me, Something Awful has a rule where no game under three months old may be LPed, which at first glance ruins my plans for starting Gray the moment I can get everything to work. When it comes to that, I would like to point out three things:

1. Gray will be nothing more than a revamped version of a game that will have been out for over two years by then.

2. Main series games' international releases happen about six months after the Japanese releases, so maybe that counts?

3. I'm a freelance LPer, with no link to Something Awful or any other group, and I intend to keep it that way. Proper etiquette can go screw itself. If someone wants to whine about me supposedly "jumping the gun", they'll find me ready.

  1. I've seen LPs of games that "just came out yesterday," so to speak, in the related videos of things I've watched in the past, so I'd say your last point is... well, on point.

  2. I'll be honest: I shed a tear. Just one, though.

I can speak semi-authoritatively about the grace period on SA since I go there. It's intended to stop people playing the game for the first time as an LP and let everyone who cares enough experience the game and the storyline fully.

I would suggest at the very least playing it through once yourself without recording to make sure you know where things are and what happens before doing an LP.

    1. That much is true, but we all know 90% of the content will already have been in B/W, and by the time I actually get to any new content they might have added, the three-month period will have been long gone anyway.

  3. I'd say screw the grace period on the third version Pokemon games. It makes sense for the first versions to be released, but the third versions don't add nearly enough content to worry about. Besides, I'm looking forward to the Gray LP, so I want it as soon as possible.

As for thinking it's overkill to shed a tear over the end of an era, it's similar to a favorite book/TV/movie/anime/game series ending. You're absolutely worth it.

  4. So will your Grey LP will be a blind one? Because if it was me, I'd rather play a new Pokemon game at my own pace.

Anyway, I think that your Pokemon LP series shouldn't be looked at as if it's over - mainly because they're the best Pokemon LPs on YouTube - it should be looked at as if it's just on hiatus.

    1. It's very likely going to be blind. Somewhat. I mean, I've already played White, and the changes Gray will bring about will already have been very well documented by that point. And for an "easy to learn, hard to master" game like Pokémon, that's really all I need.

  5. Well it is in an end of a series and really I shed a tear but it is time to move on. I presume you are starting Sonic and Knuckles 3 soon no?

  6. Hey did you see the pre-release pics that Serebii has up on that Nobunaga game yet? There's been a few, just now have seen them. It actually looks interesting.

    1. I'm going to need more than a few still shots to sell me for or against the game, though.

  7. Personally, I don't really mind the slower upload pace. Since I'm quite a recent subscriber compared to many of your other regulars, I'll take this time to watch your older LPs. I only got through Sonic 2, Sonic 3D Blast and Ocarina of Time so far. (I missed the beginning of Soul Silver and never really finished Platinum)

I did also follow Banjo-Kazooie from the very beginning, but since it's not finished yet, it does not count.

  8. I never got the whole 3 month rule thing. Seriously, if someone's so worried about getting spoiled about a game, can't they just...not watch the video? In fact, I don't think there shouldn't be any rules to LPing. They're your videos, you can do whatever you want with them.

And congrats on 5 completed Pokemon LPs. I've been following since you getting into Azalea Town (in Crystal, not SoulSilver). It has been one fantastic ride, and I can't wait until you LP Gray.

  10. I'll be honest, I've not seen all your videos. I think I've only seen your Platinum and SoulSilver LPs to completion... I've watched 44 parts of your Pokémon Red LP since you posted the final video of SoulSilver. Quick question: would you LP Black or White if Gray never comes?
EDIT: Another question - Would you LP FireRed or LeafGreen? Why or Why not? (I'm aware you hate the music)

    1. If I'm not mistaken Jimmy, the reason why he doesn't LP FireRed/LeafGreen is at least partly because in HeartGold/SoulSilver he goes through both the Generation1 and Generation2 regions. Playing FireRed/LeafGreen now would be kind of pointless as he just went through Kanto. Even if the story line in each of the games are slightly different, the difference isn't enough to justify going through Kanto yet again.

Also @Slowflake, I know someone mentioned another Zelda LP, and you said you didn't know much about Minish Cap or something like that. I've actually decided to try my hand at Minish Cap and so far I've been quite enjoying it, for a GBA game. Never liked the idea of the Zelda games being on hand helds, with the exception of Ocarina of Time 3DS of course. But Minish Cap is actually pretty good so far and sort of reminds me of Ocarina of Time in some minor ways.
