"Expanded" Hoenn Dex to feature 209 Pokémon?

Serebii updated his new Hoenn Dex page with the Milotic, Raichu and Salamence lines based on new screenshots, and their Dex numbers have been incremented only slightly, suggesting that the much-wanted expansion may be absolutely nonexistent beyond evos and pre-evos of Pokémon present in the original Hoenn Dex. Indeed, if you insert Gallade, Probopass, Magnezone, Budew, Roserade, Dusknoir, Chingling, Rhyperior and Froslass with their respective lines, the new numbers match up perfectly. And it's safe to assume that if any new Pokémon were added to the Hoenn Dex, they would've been inserted in a similar fashion along with the Pokémon they could be found in the same area as. So ultimately, it's extremely likely that what we'll get in the main game are the 200 from RSE, as well as the aforementioned nine, and anything more we might get (such as Lopunny, presumably) will be found in the post-game. Maybe the Safari Zone?

  1. There's nothing to stop adding a whole new area to the post game à la the Sevii Islands, cause the originals were quite light in that aspect.

  2. Now what I'm about to say will be a stretch. A very long one but maybe they are keeping the original hoenn dex and just putting other pokemon in but just not in the dex. Like buneary on route 102 but it only appears in the national dex. Again HUGE stretch.

    1. The only way that could happen is by having it be in a swarm/Sinnoh Sound, or different coloured grass that isn't accessible till the post game.

  3. I could see this being like Platinum where they just slap the extra pokemon to the end of the dex where applicable.
Mostly because the alternative is they didn't add Magnezone or Probopass in leau of Buneary & Lopunny and ONLY those 2.

That's what I was referring to. If they added a lot of Pokémon, just the fact that they actually changed the numbers to accommodate the new evos suggests that they would've inserted them in the same way. So that scenario is highly unlikely.

    2. Then Glacia's first team won't be that great. Unless they plan to stick in stuff that can learn Ice moves, then the only new Pokemon that she'll work with is Froslass. Other than that...Walrein and Glalie...

    3. Unless they just give them four Pokémon like they did in gens 5 and 6.

    4. Then she either doubles up or uses a Pokemon that can use Ice moves. Remember that the Hoenn Dex in Emerald only had two lines of Ice types...Or they'll go like in Touhoumon and give her a breed you can't get yet...Buuuuut that's what the rematch is for...

    5. Well, Mega Metagross appears to be an event-only thing like Blaziken was last time, so we already get that courtesy of Steven.

    6. The ice type will not have that opportunity unless Dawn Stones aren't obtainable in the main game (which they will be if Super Training returns). Even there, Hoenn Ice types and Froslass aren't exactly things that make you quiver with fear...

    7. If Reaper Cloths are obtainable, Dawn Stones will be.

    8. FRLG was called a remake, and IT turned out to be an enhanced port. Now, HGSS was a remake...

    9. Or the totally not underpopulated Ice type in Gen 3, which was my original point and is kinda my fear. Because if they stick to the regional Dexes, we will get exactly ONE Ice type that wasn't originally in the Hoenn Dex. And an Elite Four member with only Froslass, Glalie, and Walrein to play with is kinda sad. We got past that at LEAST since Gen 5...

    10. Perhaps she'll do something surprising and pick up something from the early postgame? No one has done it before, but that doesn't mean it can't happen.

Also, Froslass is a deadly mon ingame, I've seen that thing sweep teams in Platinum (...one of them was mine)

    11. Uh...That's what I mean by if they do their inner Touhoumon. And Steven will already do that with Metagross...
But it's not as deadly as, say, a well-made Gengar. Especially Mega Gengar. Competitive battling can attest to that...

    12. Mega Gengar's competitive set (as in the thing getting it banned from ubers) doesn't work ingame.

Taunt/Destiny Bond is no threat when you have twenty Revives. So what if you 100% guarantee a kill assuming I don't grind to be over your level and/or switch to something I have prepared for you because I know your team days ahead of time? I can revive!

As for Steven, Metagross is still in the dex, that's not what I mean.

    13. Mega Gengar can still be intimidating without it. A Revenge killing set does work in-game if you don't play God with it. Just not "too broken for Ubers" intimidating. It's like Wobbufet and entry hazards (pre-Gen 5 Wobbuffet). Useless in-game. Scary when a human faces one used by another human or in a facility. And it's still more threatening than a Froslass. Faster, hits harder...You'll really need to overlevel if you don't want something dead that much. And Revives are the cheap answer out. Sure, you'll use them, but you're expected to use them at the Champion. And Mega Gengar would at least get you to think twice. It's better than NOT using Revives. With them, it's just war of attrition. Oh, poor Banette. It was supposed to do priority Destiny Bond too. But it doesn't get Prankster or even a faster speed as soon as you press the button. Thus, a cool idea went down the crapper and was outclassed by something that doesn't care about getting Shadow Sneak...
On a different note, I beat Super Singles Battle Maison. I used the always trustworthy Mega Kangaskhan and Cloyster. The glue that was the key was Stored Power Sigilyph...

    14. The same reason Charizard got two, Tyranitar got one, and Lucario got one.

      Fan favoritism.

    15. Dragonite is going to get one inevitably, but look at the 600s who got it - Garchomp and Tyranitar. There's a coolness factor there.

They only gave it to one legendary, they picked the ones fans seemed to like the most. They also picked pokemon they knew fans liked like Lucario and Gengar and Charizard's second.

  4. Slowflake, I know it had happened a long time ago, but I had been meaning to ask what your thoughts on the Verlisify... conflict were. I feel that he obviously doesn't have a clue what he is doing with sets, but doesn't deserve to be shunned and outcasted by most of the whole community.

    1. I had to google to know who Verlisify is and what conflict there is. I can safely say it wasn't worth the time. I'm guessing Slowflake hasn't commented because he doesn't care because he's all-and-all irrelevant, as he should be.
