I chose the perfect moment to call it quits!

Seems like Google wasn't happy with just messing with the YouTube channels, now it's the comment sections that get it, forcing us to use Google- in order to use that. What they really need as a wake-up call is a couple big YouTubers to pull the plug, which is unlikely to happen because their loyalty is pretty much bought with fat wads o' cash. But hey, a guy can dream, right?

  1. Even with a Google- Account, they removed the "Show Reply" or whatever it was called button and tried to make "comment threads" which... just don't work..., making it nearly impossible to know what the heck is going on anymore. They didn't only try a shameless plug, they straight up broke what is supposed to be one of the simplest features any website can have. I think I'm not even going to bother commenting on any video anymore.

    1. actually it is more similar to how some other systems with the show/hide # replies in order one of the few things that looks promising out of this shite.

    3. Then why those threads don't show up 9 times out of 10 ? That's my main gripe with it, not the system itself.

    4. You can't even reply to comments over a day old, which is pretty stupid in my opinion. Let's pray it's just a glitch, we all know YouTube is famous for them.

  2. Also, it looks like half the comments are missing the thumbs up/thumbs down buttons. No, scratch that, none of them are. Nope, now all of them are. It really can't seem to make up its mind. But at the same time, they added the "top comments" or "newest first" options for how to display comments. You know, instead of having both of them at the same time, like a halfway decent website would. How the bloody hell do you decide what a top comment is if you take away the only way to rate comments, YOU IGNORANT GOAT-FUCKING FLUFFERNUTTERS!?!?!?

I used to get the stupid "You are using YouTube as AnemosThrowback. Would you like to use it for all Google products?" message about once every couple weeks, and every time I just told them to fuck off when they made yet another Google "+" page for my channel and disconnected the page from my channel every time. I swear I must have about a hundred "AnemosThrowback" Google+ pages at the moment, but I don't care since I obviously don't use Google+. Now, since they realized that everybody was doing the same thing as me, they apparently decided to stop making it optional and won't let you touch the comments section at all unless you lie back and let it happen. I really don't know if I want to keep a Google+ page attached to my channel. If I let it slide just this once, it'll just make this slippery slope of what stupid annoying shit I'm willing to put up with all the more slippery! I just don't know how much more of this I can take...

[Edit] Did this comment just get deleted, or did it get pulled away into hammerspace? I'm not sure...

    1. I think now a comment is rated on how much replys it gets, wierd isnt it?

    2. I would delete my YouTube account if I did not have this fear that Google will one day make channels mandatory to watch videos. I wouldn't put it past them.

  3. Aside from Google being stupid, was there any reason to change it in the first place?

  4. Please stop, Google. You are one of the most successful tech companies in the world, yet it seems like every couple of months you find a new and innovative way to break YouTube even more. You should be better than this. Seriously, you're making Blogger's comment system look good in comparison.

  5. Google's changes are the equivalent of calling a plumber to fix a clogged toilet and instead of fixing it, the plumber pours in wet cement making the problem far worse.

  6. I'm sure their reasoning is to make top dollar and assimilate the common public. Quality control and intuitive functionality be damned.

  7. Am I doing something wrong? youtube comments for me have disappeared totally. Do I really have to watch on google +? (I refuse)

  8. Looks like Google screwed itself at about the same time Walmart did. Hey, I'm not going to complain if I get to keep that copy of GTAV for $18.

Google freaking sucks, though. I'm done with comments unless they fix this system. Your YouTube inbox isn't even on YOUTUBE anymore, it's on GOOGLE FREAKING PLUS.

  14. The thing is, I already use facebook, all of my friends use facebook, and I see no reason to spread my networking to 2 sites that do the same thing, particularly if one of those options doesn't have the thing I actually use social networks for; friends. Google+ could literally be the best thing since sliced bread (I've heard that technically it's actually quite good), and I still wouldn't use it for that reason. I'll happily use Gmail and Chrome, they're genuinely pretty good products, and so is the Google search engine, but they should just accept that facebook got there first and try and come up with another thing. People aren't going to switch, just resent Google for trying to force their collective hands.

This I think is the main reason I'm sad about your retirement... we don't get 15 minutes of you raging against youtube with your trademark colourful language

    1. I barely use facebook at all as it is. But here's the thing: even if I DID use Google+ instead of facebook as my I-got-one-3-years-ago-because-I-thought-it-was-cool-but-now-I-don't-use-it-for-anything-anymore site, I use my Youtube and social networking accounts for entirely different things. I have gmail and facebook for dealing with real-life acquaintances, while Youtube and Steam are for my gaming life. I actually WANT to keep my private life and my Youtube life separate from each other. That's why I find it utterly offensive that Google is trying to forcefully integrate my Youtube account with (what it wants to be) my social networking account. I will NEVER use Google+, ESPECIALLY because what I would even use it for is entirely different from what I use Youtube for!

  15. After watching all of these videos (and since it's impossible for me to directly comment on them for obvious reasons), I'm still of the opinion google took the biggest misstep ever, even if the intention was for quality control and improvement. Since they've acquired Youtube, what they've been doing is trying to fix something that wasn't broken on it's inception. It had it's flaws, but it was a simple system with no surprises. Their constantly revamping everything is akin to designers of an MMO: they continually add features and patches, but just cause more problems than they fix and are never content to leave things as they are.

Google+ does not need to exist. I don't even fully understand what it is, but from what I heard it sounds a lot like what microsoft touted XBox One to be on it's first E3 showing: an all in one system (social networking in this case). It looks cool on paper, but do you have a toaster-refrigerator-microwave-oven-kitchen-sink-blender-boiler all-in-one machine in your kitchen? No, because such a device would be too big, clunky, and weird to handle. That's why all these functions are divided into different appliances. Youtube is about hosting videos. DeviantArt is about hosting artwork. Gmail is for sending emails, etc. Google+ is not going to obsolete all of that.

  16. Now Google have taken to absolute bullying. There's a petition to try and get the old comment system back and there's word that those who link the petition through a google system have their account SUSPENDED!
